Nancy Hulan

Books delight me: Not just as stories to read, but as objects to see, to hold, to smell, to caress. My art combines traditional fine-craft techniques of the hand-bound books of the Middle Ages with magical whimsy and a wide range of materials. All of the historical book and paper arts—calligraphy, illumination, binding, and marbling—are the foundations upon which I build anew.
