I think my work inspires a joyful connection with nature. I am attracted to organic shapes. My favorite subjects are trees, water and distant mountains. My passion is my garden and painting flowers and seasonal fruit. Lilacs in the early spring, then peonies, Zinnia and dahlia in the fall, and branches from my persimmon tree. My attachment to certain objects are in my still life paintings: the geisha vase, the delft bunny cup and Chinese opium jars. I love vivid color and am attracted to violet blues and candy orange. The most successful paintings have poetry and joy conveyed. That is my goal when I paint, to make an impression of poetry and joy.

My process is finding a subject that brings me joy and connection. I need to relate to a landscape or still life with an emotional feeling that I want to share with the viewer. I believe you can learn technique and be correct with composition but including emotion in a painting is something that cannot be taught.
